Job description

Applications are invited for a PhD position to characterize how ageing and practice affect the way people adapt to Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This will involve collecting behavioural and psychophysiological data in a driving simulator to assess how psychological processes are affected by interacting with different types of ADAS.

The PhD student will be integrated into the research group "Modern Human-Machine Systems" at the IfADo. The aim of this group is to apply current theoretical concepts and methodologies from the domains of cognitive psychology, psychophysiology and cognitive ergonomics to study attention- and action-related processes in the context of modern working environments. One main focus of our basic and applied research is to investigate information processing abilities of different age groups in virtual and real environments, and then to transfer any gained knowledge to applied contexts, such as interacting with ADAS.

Requirements

All candidates must be fluent in spoken and written English and have a master/diploma or equivalent degree in Psychology, Behavioural Neuroscience, or related areas that focus on human behaviour. Applicants should also have experience or affinity with applied research, preferably in the transport domain. Prior experience with programming (e.g., C++, Python, Matlab) would be an advantage.

How to apply

Applications (in English) including a CV, certificates of the grades of examination, a motivation letter as well as two letters of recommendation should be sent by e-mail to the Managing Director of the IfADo (please include “ADAPTAION” in the subject line of your e-mail):
