Job description

A new driving assistance approach for aging societies supporting every driver to achieve a maximum amount of driving competence and driving performance.

The demo graphic change faces the developed societies with enormous challenges in the future. The portion of the older population will increase continuously, whereas the individual physical and mental performance of this group will differ strongly. The standard of living of these people must be maintained from the economic, medical and social view. Particularly the preservation of the individual mobility contributes substantially to the quality of life in old age. To receive this, a decoupling of accident-risk and individual mobility in old age is necessary.

Therefore new driver assistance concepts being able to compensate the different level of driving performance are needed in the future. With those concepts the driving competence must be attained on a high standard – not only for elderly but also for all age groups. In this thesis the required parameters for measuring driving performance are identified and suitable actions for supporting the driver are defined and evaluated. At first a concept for the recording and quantifying of the road performance has to be created. Then the accompanying strategy has to be worked out with regard to the compensation of existing performance deficits. Examples for such compensation strategies could be different level of assistance in ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and navigation systems or measures to improve the physical state of the driver. Finally the whole approachhttp://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&p=thMx..&search=approachhas to be verified and validated with suitable scientific methods. (e.g. driving simulation or vehicle environment)
